Woodworking and Functional Art 2013 – 2023

Children’s Record Player

This device can be integrated with a turntable to enable manually-operated playback of records. The design intent is for adults and young children to engage in a tactile play experience involving a turntable and speaker system.

Designed and fabricated in winter and spring of 2013 as a term project for pre-apprenticeship carpentry school. Images feature Jawbone speaker, Pro-ject Carbon turntable and LPs by boards of canada (Warp Records), Emeralds (Editions Mego) Laurel Halo (hyperdub). All design and woodworking by mark outhwaite, 2013.

Presented alongside various visual artworks created by Alex Beneteau at Art in House community gallery Barrie, Ontario, May 2019.

Below is a photo-documentation of woodworking projects from 2013 through 2023 undertaken as both commissions and for personal use, a number of which are composed from recycled / cast-off wood materials.
